Complex and Significant Needs

The severe cognitive impairment program is designed for students with complex medical and developmental needs who require consistent caregiver supervision to support their most basic needs. ACSSSD strives to ensure students are valued and contributing members to their community by targeting functional skills related to communication, personal maintenance, domestic maintenance, recreation, and daily living. Age appropriate experiences are provided to promote the development of social, emotional, academic, and pre employment skills.

Each student in the program has an individualized education program (IEP) outlining their unique goals and personalized supports.  Direct classroom instruction, small group instruction, and experiential learning are components of this program.  In addition to specialized instruction, students participate in art, music, and physical education. All students in these programs participate in the state-mandated Alternative Assessment (DLM).
