The Atlantic County Special Services School District is an innovative, countywide public school that was established in 1989, and provides a wide range of programs and services to special education students from ages three through twenty-one in a variety of specialized settings.

Educational programs are provided to meet individual student needs within a broad continuum of program placements, including preschool disabled, autism, multiply-disabled, severe cognitive, and both on- and off-site School to Career programs. Related services, including counseling, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech/language therapy, pediatric physical evaluation, audiological evaluation, and child study team evaluation are provided to students and integrated into their educational program. Additional services including orthopedic and wheelchair/brace clinics, behavior management systems, social problem-solving, augmentative communication and assistive technology are also available to support individual student progress.

Our district's Academic and Transition Curricula provide the framework for the integration of academic and vocational instruction, and alignment to the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. High school programs follow the School to Career model, and emphasize the development of career education, life skills, and personal social skills, in addition to academic instruction. Through strong business partnerships, extensive opportunities to gain work experience in a variety of community settings are also provided to students who have reached the necessary achievement and workplace readiness levels.

A variety of shared services are currently offered, including Chapter 192/193 nonpublic programs, instructional services at youth detention centers, child study team services, itinerant related services and transportation.

We are grateful for the support we receive from the Atlantic County Freeholders, our Education Foundation, and the many organizations and individuals who generously give their time and resources to benefit our students.

In striving to provide the highest quality, comprehensive educational services to facilitate students to reach their fullest potential, our staff members recognize the vital need to continue developing and implementing innovative programs that promote student success, while simultaneously incorporating best practices in education.
