The ACSSSD Education Foundation is a non-profit corporation dedicated to linking the greater Atlantic County community with the Atlantic County Special Services School District. It is a vehicle for informing the public, soliciting contributions, enhancing community participation in special needs education and furthering the quality of education provided by the District.

The foundation was created in 1992 by the ACSSSD Board of Education and is administered by a board of trustees whose members are selected because of their outstanding leadership in business, civic affairs and education.

As a non-profit, tax exempt organization, this foundation provides individuals, corporations and foundations with a consistent and accountable way to provide support to the disabled on a tax-deductible basis. The foundation represents a vital link between the community and our specialized schools as a means of investing in disabled students.

***

We are fortunate to have organizations and private individuals make monetary donations to the foundation to support the special needs of our children. The foundation works to determine the scope and focus of donated funds to ensure that they meet our student needs. The foundation’s board of directors also assists the school district in establishing true partnerships between our schools and the community. Our partners assist the schools by enhancing community awareness and interaction as well as helping to generate funds for special programs which enhance educational opportunities for our disabled students.

The foundation has provided financial support for many areas of need in special education which are typically not funded by state aid or local tax revenues. Those areas include:

    • Adaptive playground equipment.
    • Physical and occupational therapy equipment.
    • Art and music equipment.
    • Specialized software programs for disabled students.
    • Mini-grants for teaching staff.
    • Holiday food drives for needy families in the school district.
    • Holiday toy drives for every student in the school district.
